Planning Code review welcomed

Given the number of complaints I regularly receive about the new Planning Code and portal, I welcomed last week’s announcement a review of the new system is to commence and encourage constituents and councils to make submissions to benefit our community.

The change in design code was intended to simplify and speed up the development application process for individuals and councils but unfortunately there is evidence that hasn’t necessarily been the case and we now have an opportunity to provide suggestions to improve the system.

I will be doing a stock take of the queries that have come through our office and will be putting my own submission in. Refer to additional information on this website for the terms of reference and details on how to participate in the review or call the electorate office.

Social housing

The clear need for more social housing across the Narungga electorate continues to be an issue and I was dismayed by the new Labor Government’s recent announcement that none of their pledged 400 new public housing builds have been earmarked for our region.

There are on average 35 vacancies per year in our community and we currently have over 70 people/families waiting on category one which is the most dire emergency need group.

I have formally contacted Minister Cook on the issue and will continue to advocate. I also encourage constituents who are aware of empty Housing SA residences to advise me and we can notify authorities to ensure they are repaired and made available asap.

Drop off point for Backpacks 4 SA Kids

My office at 37 Graves Street Kadina has just become a new designated drop off point for Backpacks 4 SA Kids, a charity that provides backpacks for children facing displacement from home, often with short notice and in traumatic situations necessitating them taking nothing with them except the clothes on their backs.

To find out what items are needed to be donated and details of how to be involved, refer to an article on this website, or phone the Kadina office.
