Grants for Seniors and Positive Ageing

New rounds of Ageing Community and Research Grants via the SA Government's Office for Ageing Well have opened today.

Ageing Well Community and Research Grants comprise four separate programs and are administered via competitive grants rounds once a year. 

To be considered for grant funding, organisations must have a registered Australian Business Number (ABN) and should be working with older people, including those from diverse cultures and backgrounds.

Projects and activities should contribute to building and maintaining inclusive communities focussed on ageing well.               

Open: Today, Friday 29 August 2025 (ahead of South Australia’s Week of Ageing Well, 1-7 October), 12pm

Close: Friday 10 October 2025, 5pm

Estimated success notification: Early 2026

Projects commence: 1 June 2026

The four programs on offer are:

Grants for Seniors (Goods/Projects)

Description: One-off grants of up to $5,000 for goods and $10,000 for projects of up to six months duration that aim to create or extend opportunities for older South Australians to be involved and active in their communities, contribute to an age friendly South Australia and support activities during South Australia’s Week of Ageing Well (held 1-7 October annually).

Eligibility: Organisations must be incorporated organisations or equivalent; e.g. an Aboriginal Community-Controlled Organisation, or a non-government, not-for-profit, community organisation or registered charity.

Positive Ageing Fellowship Grants

Description: One-off grants of up to $50,000 for capability building projects for up to 18 months duration, that will support older South Australians, including those from diverse communities and backgrounds to age well and be recognised for their valued contributions across their lifetime.

Eligibility: Organisations must be incorporated organisations or equivalent; e.g. an Aboriginal Community-Controlled Organisation, or a non-government, not-for-profit, community organisation or registered charity.

Age Friendly SA Grants

Description: One-off grants of up to $50,000 for individual eligible organisations, and up to $80,000 for partnerships of three or more eligible organisations or a Regional Local Government Association. To kick-start local age friendly initiatives up to 18 months duration. This grant program is an action of the Age Friendly SA Strategy.

Eligibility: Organisations must be located in South Australia and must be a local council; an Aboriginal and outback community; or a Regional Local Government Association.

Impact Research Grants for Ageing Well in South Australia

Description: One major grant of up to $100,000 (over two years) and two seed grants of up to $25,000 are available. Funding for the major project is split over two years, with $50,000 provided to a current year recipient for year one of their project, and $50,000 provided to the previous year recipient for year two of their project. In 2025-26 the research pillar will be ‘Getting Around’, with a focus on regional communities. This grants program is an action of the Strategic Research Agenda for Ageing Well in SA Grant program and supports implementation of the Strategic Research Agenda for Ageing Well in South Australia.

Eligibility: University and research organisations or equivalent.
