Member for Narungga Fraser Ellis MP is very pleased the notorious stretch of road between Arthurton and Maitland is to finally be improved via a joint Federal and State Government $6 million upgrade announced last Friday.
“This is the best news, that finally after years of knock backs under the previous Labor Government sections of the Arthurton to Maitland road are to be resurfaced and widened to remove the hazards so many locals and visitors daily experience.
“A renowned top 10 contender in the annual RAA Riskiest Roads in SA survey, this stretch of road is the one that I have received the most complaints about since coming to office and I am aware this was also the case for my predecessor.
“Its shoulders are so narrow and its broken edges so precarious that a serious accident has long been expected, with drivers often forced off the road to allow enough room for an oncoming truck to pass.
“School and tourist bus drivers, ambulance drivers, truckies and farmers lamenting vehicle repair costs incurred due to this road’s unforgiving undulating surfaces have been among the regular complainants over the years and I am relieved for them and pleased their advocacy and mine have helped to bring this result.
“I also welcomed the announcement last Friday of $3 million being allocated for widening of lanes and shoulder sealing for the Minlaton to Stansbury Road, being $2.4 million of Federal funds and $600,000 from State Government.
“These allocations bring the total investment of roads funding to the Narungga electorate since I was elected in 2018 to the vicinity of $170 million.
“There is still much to do but I am gratified to have regular announcements of much needed investment in road projects in our region, and I encourage all constituents to keep informing me of their wishes and experienced black spots so I can continue to advocate effectively.”
