Member for Narungga Fraser Ellis MP was pleased to host a two-day visit to the Narungga electorate (27/28 August) by Minister for Infrastructure & Transport the Hon. Corey Wingard MP last week.
“Imperative to me was ensuring the Minister was shown specific roads in poor condition, and that he experienced driving on them,” Mr Ellis said.
“This included the Arthurton to Maitland Road, the Wallaroo entrance road from Kadina and Maitland to Minlaton Road.
“These are some of the roads I am contacted most about by locals.
“I drove home the case that these locally notorious stretches of road need investment not just because they are bumpy and are uncomfortable for users but because they are hazardous and pose serious safety risks.
“The Arthurton to Maitland Road for instance is far too narrow and must be widened. Its broken edges are so precarious that a serious accident has long been expected with drivers often forced off the road to allow enough room for an oncoming truck to pass.
“Additionally, school and tourist bus drivers, ambulance drivers, truckies and farmers lament vehicle repair costs incurred due to such unforgiving undulating surfaces.
“I was grateful Minister Wingard took time out of his busy schedule to visit our region so early in his tenure as the new Transport Minister and feel sure his visit was very worthwhile.
“The electorate of Narungga has experienced significant road investment over the period of this government, and I will continue to push for more.”
