In Parliamentary question time on Thursday 5th of June Member for Narungga Fraser Ellis MP pushed for the Minister for Infrastructure and Transport to consider 30m A-Double Road Train gazettal for the newly upgraded Upper Yorke Road from Kulpara to Arthurton.
“This approval would be welcomed by heavy vehicle operators and primary producers alike, enabling increased freight movement efficiency and increased market prospects for local agricultural products through greater accessibility.”
“The Federal and State Government jointly-funded significant upgrades to the Port Broughton – Bute and Kulpara – Arthurton roads which has now come to completion,” he said.
“Final works are expected for completion this month and will mean that the road is now at a standard that can undoubtedly host 30m road trains on it. The Government must gazette the road as such.”
The works included pavement rehabilitation, shoulder sealing, safety barrier installation, vegetation management and the addition of Audio Tactile Line Marking with final works including the intersection of South Tce, Ardrossan and Upper Yorke Roads, as well as the 700m stretch of Arthurton Road from immediately north of the township to the Upper Yorke Road intersection.
“The Minister’s response was encouraging, as he pledged to have the Department for Infrastructure and Transport investigate not only the initial request, but also whether this gazettal could be extended to Maitland.”
“This request also coincides with the Yorke Peninsula Council’s request to gazette all local government roads under the same condition, with this currently subject to Department approval for roads that intersect state government roads.
“An assessment of this was expected by May 31st however I am awaiting advice regarding the outcome.”
“If the Department approve the gazettal for the entirety of the stretch from Maitland to Kulpara, in conjunction with the council roads gazettal, this will see the entire Yorke Peninsula accessible to 30m A-Double Road Trains.”
