Greens MLC Robert Simms has been elected chair of the State's Joint Parliamentary Inquiry into harmful algal blooms, and the inquiry is now accepting submissions.
The inquiry was established during the last sitting period and will consider:
- the factors that caused the bloom to occur and spread rapidly
- economic impacts
- effects on community health and wellbeing
- the State Government's response to this crisis, including public communications and support and recovery arrangements
- long-term monitoring and prevention strategies and what steps to be taken to prevent a catastrophe like this from ever occurring again
