17 Mar 2025

Fraser is pleased to advise that two public hearings have been scheduled as part of the underway Parliamentary Inquiry into the delivery of health services on Yorke Peninsula – one to be held at Yorketown Town Hall on Thursday 27 March (noon-3.30pm) and another at Wallaroo Town Hall on Friday 28 March, 9.30am-noon.

Any organisations and individuals wishing to appear before the Economic and Finance Committee that is undertaking the investigation is invited to contact the committee by phoning 08 8237 9442 or email [email protected]

This is our opportunity to have our say on the delivery of health services on the Yorke Peninsula.

The committee is specifically investigating:

  • 1. The classification of the Wallaroo Hospital
  • 2. The most appropriate Local Health Network coverage for the Port Pirie Hospital
  • 3. Factors impacting the delivery of health services on the Yorke Peninsula and especially in relation to access and equity; and
  • 4. Any other matter relating to health services on the Yorke Peninsula

If you have a view on the delivery of health services on the Yorke Peninsula and would like to appear before the Committee, please contact the Parliamentary Officer via:

Power

The extended power outages over the weekend were very concerning and dangerous for many in such heat.

Throughout Friday and the weekend, Fraser kept in regular contact with Minister Koutsantonis, raising the issue of past, current and future cleaning maintenance for insulators to prevent “pollution” build up (the reported cause of the blackout on Friday) and more questions will be posed this week in Parliament.

The other issue is the formal criteria for compensation from SA Power Networks and/or retailers for the loss of food in fridges and freezers. I am advised that people are only eligible to claim financial losses if the power is out for over 20 hours.

Reportedly, Friday’s outages lasted for 19 hours and 30 minutes.

Fraser is pursuing an exception to this rule.

Roads

Thank you to all who have responded to our survey calling for near-miss stories at the intersection of Thrington and Mines roads at North Yelta on the approach to Moonta.

It is clear that many locals and tourists believe this intersection is a dangerous one and requires urgent improvements.

Also on the topic of roads, it is very pleasing that the lane duplication of National Highway One has traffic flowing again between Port Wakefield and Lochiel; the notorious  Kulpara to Arthurton section of Upper Yorke Road is nearing completion; and that the main section of the Wallaroo entrance road  is now out to tender and will soon commence to complement Council works in the area that are already underway or have been finished.

Of the Wallaroo entrance road, all are mindful this project has been a complex one involving multiple stages of works by both DIT and Council, and additionally involving a jurisdiction road swap of comparable standard roads once all works are complete.

I am confident that once all works are complete, the entrance from Kadina to Wallaroo will appropriately befit the major tourism thoroughfare that this road has become.

Petition lodged

On Thursday March 6, Fraser lodged a petition to Parliament on behalf of the community, signed by 450 people from in and around the Edithburgh district urging action on the widening of the road from Yorketown.

When you consider that the entire town is reported to have a population of around 450 people it shows the level of community concern about the width of the road.

Fraser has urged Minister Koutsantonis to consider the widening of the road as a result of the petition and level of demonstrated concern, especially given the width of farm machinery and vehicles which regularly use this road.

In a Personal Statement made same day in the chamber, Fraser applauded proponent of the petition, Mr Rick Hutchinson, for his considerable efforts in gathering so many signatures for the cause.
