Works commenced at notorious Maitland to Urania road section

21 Jan 2022 media release

Member for Narungga Fraser Ellis MP is thrilled to announce that works have commenced on improvements to the final section of road between Maitland and Urania.

“Works have begun in Urania on the really bad section of road to Maitland that is renowned for its hazardous undulations which have caused many near accidents in recent years.

“An investment of $15.6m has been allocated to this vital project which will see this terrible stretch of road ripped up and redone.

“This now means that the entire stretch of road between Arthurton and Minlaton, the stretch of road that this office received the most complaints about, will have been redone over the past four years. It is an extraordinary result for our community.

“Surveying the Urania to Maitland section was undertaken some months ago and whilst planning for the rehabilitation has taken a while I am very pleased construction has now begun, with the works due to be completed by June 2022.

“No longer will caravans and trailers bump around treacherously and likewise patients travelling in ambulances will have a far more comfortable ride, as will all drivers of all types of vehicles traversing this stretch.

“This is a terrific outcome and thankyou to everyone in the community who lent their voice to securing this outcome.”
