Member for Narungga Fraser Ellis MP is pleased to announce State Government funding of $3.040 million has been secured to upgrade the Marion Bay boat ramp.
“This long-awaited upgrade of Marion Bay boat ramp can now proceed with the securing of $3.040 million from the South Australian Boating Facilities Fund.
“For more than five years we have been lobbying for a new Marion Bay boat ramp such is the state of the currently unsafe, single lane concrete strip that serves as a boat launch facility at this very popular tourist destination.
“It was a topic I raised again last week during Estimates and in my budget in reply speech so I am thrilled Yorke Peninsula Council’s latest submission has been successful after multiple attempts.
“A new two-lane boat launch facility at Marion Bay with fixed jetty and a new car park will certainly bring with it vital improved safety for all who use it, as well as significant economic and tourism benefits for the growing Marion Bay township and region”, Mr Ellis said.
This news will be heartily welcomed by Council, Marion Bay Progress Association and township, Yorke Peninsula tourism and fishing sectors as well as local sea rescue vessel volunteers who have long battled with the inadequate ramp.
Quotes from YP Council:
Yorke Peninsula Council Mayor Darren Braund said the funding announcement was exciting news for the Marion Bay and Yorke Peninsula communities.
“The upgrade of the Marion Bay has been talked about for many years so the funding announcement is a fantastic step forward,” Mr Braund said.
“Council has worked with various stakeholders including users of the ramp to come up with the most appropriate design that will best serve the community for many decades to come.
“This project would not be possible without external funding and Council is very grateful the State Government has seen fit to support such a worthwhile upgrade.”
