Country Cabinet in our region this week

13 Feb 2023

With Country Cabinet in our region this week (15/16 February), I have been very pleased to work with Premier Malinauskas and his team to arrange local community meetings which hopefully lead to good outcomes for our patch.

The itinerary includes meetings with Ministers for councils and community to discuss everything from housing and homelessness, domestic violence, and childhood protection, to the region’s roads and sporting needs and planning and development. Stay tuned for positive announcements that emanate from these events.

New push for signatures for health petition

Reaction from communities across the region to our petition for local health services has been fantastic but it is now time for a renewed push for more signatures.

In the 16 weeks since launching the health petition we have tallied nearly 7,000 signatures due to the huge efforts of individuals and businesses across the electorate. The target is to reach 10,000 signatures in order to trigger a formal Parliamentary investigation into what we’re calling for – namely better resourcing of our local health services and action to address the GP shortages that so many of us are gravely concerned about and which are threatening the future of regional townships.

Please contact my office for details about the petition and where to find sheets and sign, or alternatively, our office can send out sheets. Remember anyone over the age of 18 who lives in South Australia is eligible to sign, not just those who live in the Narungga electorate.

Multiple grants open

Please visit the Grants tab of this website for information about Grants programs that have opened recently, including Saluting Their Service for RSL groups, the popular Active Club for sports clubs seeking funding for equipment, and Strengthening Rural Communities and Celebrate Together programs to assist with local initiatives. Guidelines are on my website.

I also advise submissions are open for the 2023 Top Tourist Town competition, and that the 2023 Seniors Card Discount Directory booklets were delivered to the office last week so are now available for pick up (or phone us to post you one). This valuable booklet details the range of discounts available under the State Government’s Seniors Card program on everything from travel, home and garden, clothing, fitness, education, retail, recreational activities and more.
