December update

11 Dec 2023

Throughout December I have very much enjoyed attending multiple end of school year celebrations and presenting medallions to meritorious students; I thank all the schools I visited last week for your warm welcome, among them Blyth, Snowtown and Bute Primary Schools and Kadina Memorial School.

This week I visit Ardrossan and Moonta Area Schools, Maitland Lutheran, and Wallaroo and Brinkworth Primary Schools.

There have been many highlights of 2023, a major one lodging our health petition in the chamber on 15 November and surpassing the required 10,000 signatures to trigger a formal review by the Legislative Review Committee into the five specific requests petitioned.

It was such a marvellous and massive community effort to collate so many signatures, the biggest in the history of our electorate. I have since addressed the chamber and also formally written to the Upper House Review Committee to emphasise the importance of the health improvements sought and to implore a thorough, forensic investigation now occur.

Still on the topic of health, community feedback is currently being sought by the Yorke and Northern Local Health Network for planning future service provision at Snowtown Hospital, Burra Hospital and Riverton District Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital. For information on how to participate in a short online survey, refer to a preceding article on this website (under News).

This website also details Parliament news and grants advice; re the latter, funds currently open include the Youth Mental Health Grant Fund, two Veterans SA funds, the new South Australian Football Facilities Fund, and Positive Ageing/Grants for Seniors (refer to Grants tab).

Of Parliament news, it was a busy final two sitting weeks for the year which included my backing the call for a Royal Commission into domestic violence in SA and addressing the chamber in relation to the future of Ardrossan Hospital, rural health services, and the recommendations from the Select Committee on Artificial Intelligence (of which I was a member).

The Narungga Electorate Office will be closed for a Christmas break, from 5 pm Thursday 21 December to 9 am Wednesday 3 January 2024.

My sincere best wishes to all for the festive season and a happy and prosperous 2023.
