Today the Marshall Liberal Government launched a jobs recruitment drive to hire the first of 175 trainee disability services officers through a new $9.5 million commitment to deliver new traineeships across Adelaide and the regions, and Kadina has been named as a location for the first trainee roles on offer.
It is projected that up to 85 roles will be filled in the first year of recruitment, with the first trainee roles on offer to be located in Adelaide, Kadina and Mt Gambier.
Disability services is one of the largest and fastest growing industries in South Australia.
The new multi-million commitment will deliver 175 disability traineeships over a two year period, with the first round of roles offered through group training organisation MEGT.
Successful applicants will gain hands-on experience by working in the Government's Accommodation Services which helps South Australians living with a disability live as independently as possible.
Trainees will gain their new skills over a period of 12 months, they will be paid in accordance with the industry award and achieve a Certificate III in Individual Support (Disability).
Following their traineeship, trainees can apply for positions within the State Government's Accommodation Services, or pursue careers elsewhere in the sector.
Minister for Human Services Michelle Lensink urges South Australians wanting a career in disability to apply.
"Over 12 months trainees will gain practical, hands-on experience in supporting adults living with diverse and complex disabilities and earn a nationally recognised certification.
"Aspiring trainees could be young people just starting out in their careers or older workers looking to move into a new field.
"Trainees will learn the wide range of skills required to support people with disability, including promoting independence and community inclusion, supporting personal care and encouraging the building of interpersonal relationships.
"If you are someone with good people skills who's committed to helping others live their best life, this could be the role for you."
