Member for Narungga Fraser Ellis MP urges local producers, industry and community to engage in an underway public consultation period on the State Government’s just released draft Biosecurity Bill.
“This bill will supersede several acts and it is important a wide range of people from our electorate provide their feedback and inform the final drafting”, Mr Ellis said.
"The aim of the bill is to strengthen protection of SA’s economy, terrestrial and aquatic environments and community from pests, diseases and other biosecurity matters, and provide capacity and increased flexibility to respond quicker to any biosecurity incursions."
The proposed Bill will introduce a new framework and concepts to manage biosecurity risks and impacts in South Australia, including a general biosecurity duty which is to apply across government, industry and the community more broadly.
The draft Biosecurity Bill, an explanatory guide and other supporting documents are available for viewing online and providing feedback at yoursay.sa.gov.au/biosecuritybill
Public webinars will be held on 21 and 25 August, and sector-specific webinars from 22-25 August (including horticulture, grains/seeds/fodder, dairy, red meat and wool, wine and for the Dog Fence Board and landholders).
