Grants funding for farmers to buy eligible fire fighting equipment to assist the CFS to fight fires has received a commitment of $2 million over four years in the 2022-23 State Budget.
Through the reinstated Regional Capability Community Fund, grants reimburse successful applications of between $200 to $3,000 (GST inclusive) to farmers and farming businesses who purchase necessary equipment to use their farm fire fighting unit such as personal protective clothing, first aid kits and UHF radios.
Of interest is that this fund has been broadened to allow for community groups to collectively purchase items such as protective clothing to undertake fire prevention community activities.
Thus, applications can now be accepted from:
- Individual farmers
- Farming businesses or rural landholders
- Rural community groups (Note: Applications from rural community groups will only be eligible for reimbursement for shared use fire rated personal protective clothing).
Only one application per person or business/entity will be eligible.
The current round (round 2) closes on Friday, August 4, at 5 pm, with applicants informed of outcomes by September 11.
